Why Are We Building Sportbench?

Our Story

Tobias wanted to go pro. Today, he fights for something bigger.

Since he was a child, Tobias has played tennis passionately. His dream: going pro. He trained hard and was really good. But as he grew up, balancing tennis with school, work, and daily life became tough. Time was scarce, his team disbanded, and league matches often fell through because of inflexible schedules. When he finally played in a ranking tournament, he faced opponents with the same rank—but they were either much weaker or far stronger—making the matches feel more random than competitive.

At the same time, Tobias played Counter-Strike in the ESL online league. There, he found opponents at his level whenever and wherever he wanted. He could play matches, earn points, and improve, all on his own schedule.

That’s when he asked himself: Why can’t tennis work like that too?

Competition Should Be Flexible, Not Elitist

Tobias shared his idea with his friend Raphael. Raphael was immediately on board and drafted the first business plan. It quickly became clear: this problem is everywhere. Whether tennis, table tennis, badminton, padel, or squash—ambitious amateur athletes struggle to find consistent opponents at their level. Club structures are rigid. WhatsApp groups are chaotic. Apps like Playtomic help with court booking, not real competition.

Our solution: An app that gives every athlete access to exciting, flexible competition—without club memberships, bureaucracy, or hurdles.

The Beginning of Sportbench

We knew this problem needed solving—and we needed someone who could build our vision. At the end of 2023, we met Tien—a talented developer and passionate racket-sports enthusiast. With him, our founding team was complete. Since then, we’ve been building Sportbench in every spare minute, aiming to give you a platform where you can play matches whenever, wherever, and with whomever you want—all without club constraints. Right now, we’re all still working part-time jobs to stay afloat, but our goal is to change the game.

Our vision: to turn Sportbench into a movement and democratize racket sports. We’re creating a global community where everyone benefits equally from the physical, social, and economic advantages of competitive play.
